"UKRAINE MADE USA LOOK STUPID", SADEKOV

Vice-president of the Caucasian Institute for Democracy Midkhat Sadekov says that by accepting a $230 price for the Russian natural gas the Ukraine made the USA look stupid. “The Ukraine has also demonstrated to the world its specific political style”, stressed Mr. Sadekov. Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko who insisted on a gradual transfer to the world prices got a support for this attitude from the US. But suddenly, Yushchenko changed his mind. “It is quite obvious, says Mr. Sadekov, that the US agreed to voice Yushchenko’s propaganda formulas only after consultations with Kiev and receiving serious guarantees from the Ukraine”. One can argue about the purpose of the American support of the tough and ill justified Ukrainian attitude towards Russia and, consequently, towards Europe. One can also speculate about how long Kiev had promised to hold out and keep Russia and all Europe in a state of conflict… But finally, the Ukraine backed off. The US has no choice but to admit that it found itself in a very silly situation. The Americans have to reassess the reliability of Yushchenko as a political ally. Moldavia that is counting on Yushchenko and its US patrons in its “anti-gas” propaganda should learn a lesson form this happening", says Mr. Sadekov.
